Last minute Cinco de Mayo fiesta tips

fiesta begin

Happy Cinco de Mayo! A week of preparation and the day is finally here, we are ready to fiesta like there is no manana!

Normally, I have my whole party planned but I always find myself scrambling for just a few last minute details I discover on Pinterest the morning of my party.

Here are some of my absolute favorites that I could not throw a fiesta without:

Sombrero Sugar Cookies

As if the dessert table wasn’t festive enough, I had to add these cute cookies into the mix. Have a sombrero cookie decorating contest or prep them before to scatter throughout the table with the oreo tacos!

Chalkboard Art

Who knew a simple chalkboard could add so much to a party?! No matter the occasion we are thanking the home decor gods for this accent piece. Use it as a sign in your yard or to label the food.

Glass Bottle Sodas + Sombreros= OLE!

I love the look and taste of glass bottle soda. I’m not sure what it is but soda out of a glass bottle tastes 110% better to me. Pair with mini sombrero toppers for a festive accent that is sure to pop!

Perfect Place Settings

With all this talk about food and party decor it is easy to over look the table settings. I’m adding spice to my table by labeling each seat with a hot pepper! The green pepper accents pair perfectly with the bright colors on the table!

Pinata Napkins

Never underestimate the power of a clever napkin. This one is HILARIOUS and perfect to pair with a tequila bar.

I would LOVE to see how your fiesta turns out so please share images with me!

Unique ways to Hang a Wreath

OK, I admit it, I am wreath obsessed.  I am the “queen” of seasonal wreaths. It’s the first thing I do when I start to decorate for the season. I think my neighborhood is quietly saying, “here she goes again, let the decorating begin!” They all know that when I hang my wreath, its game on…seasonal decorating is in the house.  So this week, I decided I was going to give y’all a dose of my wreath love!

First, I wanted to share with you my excitement. I got to design my very own wreath this season!  Whoot Whoot.  I had the vision of creating a white wreath this year that could easily move from fall to winter, my friends at Urban Farm Girls were so kind to help me with this.  We came up with this white birch living wreath that is completely unique and one-of-a-kind me.  Thank you Urban Farm Girls for listening to my vision and creating such beauty.  My wreath obsession is now at a different level. Love it.

I wanted to share a few unique ways to hang a wreath:

1.  Burlap ribbon. You often see wreaths suspended from a beautiful piece of ribbon, but not necessary burlap ribbon. I personally love this look and adds a touch of that farmhouse feel that the fall season is all about.  The key to hanging a wreath from a ribbon is to allow for enough length, always measure before cutting your ribbon. Loop the ribbon through the back of the wreath, join ends, fold over about a 1/2 inch and secure to the top of your door with thumbtacks.

2.  Hang from the side of a door.  I think this works great when hanging wreaths indoors, could be a fun entry into your bedroom.  Wrap the ribbon tightly all around the door and secure with a thumbtack on each side of the door.

3.  Vintage Window Frame. Thank you Funky Junk Interiors for this fun idea using old windows.  I love mixing the new with the old, this vintage window is the perfect frame for this festive wreath.  All you need is a little creativity.

4. Large Scaled Wreaths.  Wreaths can be hung everywhere to capture the look of fall.  I love this large scaled wreath hung on this barn to create the look of fall throughout this property. It can transition from fall to winter by just adding lights.

5.  Take it to the coop. Chickens need wreath love too. Don’t limit decorating to your home, take it out to the chicken coop. Dried wreaths are a great way to dress up your coop, they last all year long.  Scatter for an assorted dried look, I especially love drying my herbs from my garden and creating my own wreaths.

I hope this has inspired you to become a little wreath obsessed like me.

The Perks of Pozzola (What’s Pozzola!?)

What the heck is Pozzola!?

A question I asked myself multiple times while oogling over all of Urban Farm Girl’s gorgeous products…lucky for me they explained it perfectly:

Pozzola is derived from the word “pozzolans”. In ancient times, this was an ingredient used in the construction of buildings. Substances such as grass or pumice were ground up and used in original cement mixtures to form what are now historic structures in Italy.

Urban Farm girls pozzola products are lightweight like pumice, but durable. They are porous like stone which is great for drainage. Pozzola has great texture and it’s such a great compliment for anything green – succulents especially (a favorite of Urban Farm Girls!). The pozzola ages beautifully with a variety of natural patinas. No electricity is used in the drying of the pots Urban Farm Girls create – they depend solely on the sun as the pots progress through three stages of curing.

Keep Calm & Decorate with Beach Decor

Now that the sun is out, all I can think about is laying at the beach. We don’t live near the ocean up here in Northern California, but every summer my big family takes a trip to Santa Cruz. The beach will always remind me of them. :) So little pieces of beach decor are perfect reminders of sunshine and good times. You don’t have to live by the beach to decorate with awesome, ocean-themed decorations. Here are a couple funky finds. For more, follow our ‘All About the Beach’ Board on Pinterest!

Portable Gardens By BACSAC®

BACSAC® shakes up the world of gardening! Designer Godefroy de Virieu and landscapers Virgile Desurmont and Louis de Fleurieu came together to create an alternative solution for the rooftop garden. Flexibility, mobility, cost and weightlessness were the key features behind the brilliant idea.

The idea of planting in bags comes from their desire to change habits and valorize what it should be, the plant. BACSAC is manufactured of permeable geotextile to prevent asphyxiation of the soil.

Its technical multi-layered fabric maintains the necessary balance between air, soil and water. The outside fabric is tear strength and abrasion resistant and treated against UV allowing it to withstand temperatures from -30°C to +70°C. Inside, the combination of 3 layers of felt protects the roots, limits evaporation and distributes water.

100% recyclable, BACSAC is such an amazing product that suits all environments and we hope will change the world!
